ARE THERE ANY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR DRIVING MY HIRE CAR IN CORK?
The Irish drive on the left and overtake on the right (as in the UK). Generally, priority is given to vehicles on the right. Vehicles on a roundabout have priority so vehicles entering a roundabout must give way since traffic coming from the right hand side has precedence at roundabouts.

As in the UK, yellow lines indicate parking restrictions. There will always be a sign which detailing the exact parking restrictions nearby, but typically a double yellow line means no parking at any time, a single yellow line means no parking from 8am to 6 30pm Monday to Saturday, and a broken yellow line means that there are few restrictions for which you should check the nearest sign. Pay-and-display machines are common throughout Corks major towns and cities. In pay and display machines you need to put in the money for the required amount of time, collect a small ticket and display it CLEARLY on the dashboard of your hire car.

WHAT IS THE SPEED LIMIT IN CORK?
The speed limits in Cork are similar to those in the UK.

Speed limits are indicated by circular signs with the limit amount circled by a red band. You should drive carefully in your hire car as speed cameras are in operation on most major roads.

If you fail to produce these documents the police may ask you to present them at a police station within a specified number of days. If this happens on the last day of your trip, you’re in trouble, so it’s best to keep them in your hire car at all times.

WHAT DO I DO IF MY HIRE CAR IS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT?
Any driver involved in an accident must STOP his/her vehicle and remain at the scene of the accident for a reasonable time. However, if the vehicle or vehicles are obstructing the road or pose a danger to other road users, the position of the vehicles should be marked and the vehicles moved off the actual carriageway as quickly as possible. You will also need to call the Police if there is any damage to the hire car or to a passenger of yours or another. You should also take the details and the registration number of all witnesses to the accident. If you have a camera make sure you take photographs from all angles before any vehicle is moved. You will need to inform our local car hire supplier and provide them with a copy of the police report as soon as possible.
